Here's the key information about the proposed Abel Tasman Kayak trip in January with a trip outline and some things you need to do. It is a great trip with the chance to see seals, occasional dolphins, penguins, orcas, shags and other bird life. Some of the best if not the best coastal scenery in NZ. Great company and food depending on your cooking ability. Click here for more info on the park.

Gear to Bring
1. Everyone needs to access either a single or double kayak. Ride on or std with a spray skirt. Paddle, lifejacket and waterproof windbreaker. We will talk about transportation closer but any offers of trailers capable of transporting kayaks gratefully accepted. If you need to rent a kayak. Search for Freedom Kayaks in the Abel Tasman. Basic cost for four days is around $170/person but you will need to be there early for pre-requisite safety briefings which usually take an hour or two.
2. Appropriate clothing for trip including rain gear and walking shoes. Pack light if we are transporting via kayak.
3. Food. Each couple or family to sort their own.

Things to do NOW!
1. You will need to book your own tent site at Onetahuti $12.20/person and either the huts ($35.70) or tent sites ($12.20) at Bark Bay and Anchorage . Prices go up in December. Under 18's free.
IMPORTANT. Huts and campsites are likely to be booked out by August/September. Strongly recommend you book now as follows - Mon 9th Jan Tent site at Onetahuti. Tues 10th Hut or tent site at Bark Bay. Wed 11th Hut or tent site at Anchorage. Click here to go the DOC booking site.
2. Express your interest to Tim. I need to book Aqua taxi by 31st September so get back to me by then. I will pay by credit card and you can reimburse me.

Costs
1. Petrol - Share petrol costs with those travelling in your vehicle.
2. Hut and tent site fees - $12.20 tent at Onetahuti (and Anchorage and Bark Bay if you want to economise), $35.70 hut fees each for Bark Bay and Anchorage if not tenting.
3. Optional A La Carte Dinner at Awaroa. (Approx $30-40/head.)
4. Aqua taxi. $39/person and $35 per single kayak or $40 per double kayak
5. Food. (3 breakfasts, 2 lunches and 3 evening meals or 2 if dining at Awaroa.)
6. Possible luggage transfers. Some may choose to put their gear into packs/bags weighing up to 20kg. These the water taxi company will pick up and move to each bay for us for $12/pack. i.e. Transport it with us to Onetahuti, move it to Bark Bay and then to Anchorage and then back to Marahau. It would cost $36 for the four transfers (Onetahuti is free). You can probably get gear for two people into each pack. So another $18/person over the three days.
7. Possible water taxi passenger relocation for any non-kayakers/walkers. Onetahuti-Bark Bay $25. Bark Bay-Anchorage $25 and Anchorage to Marahau $32.
